Public Policy Advocacy
People and institutions of faith can make a difference through their actions to conserve energy and through the purchase of green energy. But we can also make a difference by speaking up for policies that will ensure a just, sustainable future for all of creation.
Here where we live Virginia Interfaith Power & Light would like to highlight some of the opportunities to weigh in on the policies of state, local, and regional bodies in Virginia . We also work in cooperation with the national Interfaith Power & Light office and other state and regional IPLs to effect policy change at the national level.
Current Initiatives
Most recently VIPL has been working to advocate:
-
Renewable Energy Portfolio Standards for Virginia
-
Net Metering and Time Of Use Metering standards in conformity with the new federal Energy Policy Act of 2005
-
Other related state and electric utility policies to better encourage the development of renewable energy in Virginia
-
A national CAP on CO2 emissions and other policies needed to effect meaningful change for the nation as a whole
Virginia Interfaith Power and Light is the environmental education and policy program of the Virginia Interfaith Center.
