Virginia Interfaith Power & Light Newsletter Editorial Guidelines
The VIPL Newsletter serves two primary purposes:
First, it provides a medium for VIPL to communicate its activities to individuals and congregations in Virginia and engage them in supporting our cause.
Second, it provides a forum for grassroots efforts and allows people to share ideas and experiences. For this latter purpose, we seek articles "from the field."
The editor will use the following criteria for reviewing all submissions:
- The views expressed must be non-partisan.
- No statement may be libelous or slanderous.
- The content must be the original work of the person submitting the article, with credits give where appropriate.
- All content, including opinions, should have a firm grounding in verifiable fact, and not be speculative.
- The writer should address issues, and not people or identified groups of people or institutions (such as corporations).
- Truthfulness and accuracy are essential to maintaining trust; therefore statements of fact must be verifiable.
- Submissions that seek to create general distrust of mainstream science or that deny the existence of recognized environmental problems will not be accepted.
- The authors of all submissions must reside or work in the State of Virginia. Anonymous submissions will not be accepted.
- Style may range from conversational to moderately formal.
- Submissions may be edited for clarity and length, while preserving the voice of the author as much as possible.
Additionally, staff will exercise editorial judgment in reviewing all submissions. Sign up for Virginia Interfaith Power & Light newsletters here.
